The most common causes of dementia are (quote):
- Alzheimer’s disease (about 50%)
- Vascular dementia (about 25%).
- Dementia with Lewy bodies (about 15%).
- Frontotemporal dementia (less than 5%).
- Mixed dementias (included in the above estimates).
Mixed dementias include Alzheimer’s disease with vascular dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease with dementia with Lewy bodies.
All other causes make up less than 5% of the total.
