The 2008 Annual Evidence Update (AEU), produced by NHS Evidence, gives an overview of the most important evidence published during the period Spring 2007 – Summer 2008.
This section of the AEU is aimed at clinicians in primary care or general medicine. It covers:
- Cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEIs).
- Other therapies.
- Treatment of neuropsychiatric and behavioural symptoms.
At present, there is no cure for dementia, regardless of aetiology. Current pharmacological interventions attempt to delay progression of the syndrome and improve its symptoms.
This AEU has since been updated in 2009 and 2010. (See Dementia: the Latest Evidence Newsletter RWHT Volume 1 Issue 3 October 2010).
