Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) E-Learning Module (RCN)

Summary

An estimated 25,000 people admitted to hospital die from preventable VTE each year, and the Department of Health has made prevention a priority for the NHS.

To raise awareness and understanding of the NICE VTE guideline, the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) developed a free interactive e-learning module on the practical aspects of blood clot prevention. Nursing staff are encouraged to assess patients for their VTE risk routinely, to educate patients about VTE prevention, and to use preventative devices such as anti-embolism stockings as directed. The module is divided into four stand-alone sections, each designed to take about 20 minutes.
