Patient Safety Function Transfers to the NHS Commissioning Board (NHS Commissioning Board)

Summary

The key functions and expertise for patient safety have transferred to the NHS Commissioning Board from the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA). Patient safety is to be at the heart of the NHS. Learning and expertise developed by the NPSA will continue to improve patient safety improvements.

The NHS Commissioning Board Authority (NHSCBA) utilises the National Reporting and Learning System (NRLS), which is the world’s most comprehensive database of patient safety information, to identify and address patient safety issues based on root cause analyses. Healthcare organisations should report patient safety incidents to the NRLS.
