Guide for Local Authorities (Mental Health Strategic Partnership)

Summary

The Mental Health Strategic Partnership, with top UK mental health charities, has released six briefings on better local mental health services. These briefings, commissioned by the Department of Health, elaborate on the Government’s “No Health Without Mental Health” strategy. They cover, collectively, the roles of Local Authorities, Commissioning Groups, Directors of Public Health, Overview and Scrutiny Committees, Local Healthwatch, and Health and Wellbeing Boards in the improvement of mental health care, treatment and support.

The Local Authorities briefing discusses the role of local authorities in providing strategic leadership for their communities and as commissioners, particularly of children’s services and adult social care.
