This paper reports the results of an investigation into any broad lessons which could be learned from the Darzi model of clinical leadership, and the conditions which might enable or constrain effective realisation and performance.
The potential for clinical leadership was explored in practice in just four cases. These cases involved attempts at cross-boundary service redesign in two service areas:
- Sexual health.
They were studied in two different health economies:
- Greater Manchester.
The researchers have identified four main types of clinical leadership. The report highlights the need to focus on patient and user needs. Lessons (at a very general level) for the implementation of service redesign are outlined.
