Women over the age of 60 are most likely to be admitted to hospital for anxiety, according to the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC). Men are more likely to be admitted to hospital for anxiety between the ages 45 and 49.
During the 12 months between December 2012 and November 2013, 28% of anxiety admissions in England involved women aged 60 and over. The prevalence of anxiety appears to increase as people get older.
