Benefits of Alteplase Outweigh Risks (BBC News / MHRA)

Summary

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) review into the safety of alteplase, the thrombolytic (clot-busting) drug for the treatment of strokes, has concluded that alteplase is “safe and effective”. The expert working group of the UK’s Commission on Human Medicines (CHM) asserts that alteplase is safe and effective for use up to 4.5 hours after the onset of symptoms.
