It was announced, coinciding with the Conservative Party Conference, that GPs in England will be offered a voluntary contract to provide seven day services for patients. Seven day hospital services should be operational in half of England by 2018 and the whole of England by 2020.

Seven-Day Services: Metrics and Indicators
Possibly of interest, the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) earlier released some statistical indicators allowing improvements, and variations, in NHS services throughout the week to be measured. Statistics on emergency readmissions by day of discharge and length of stay by day of admission are included as performance measures.
