Summary
Shingles, caused by herpes varicella zoster, can result in debilitating long-term post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). A herpes zoster vaccination programme for adults aged over 70 years has been in place since September 2013, aimed at reducing the incidence and severity of shingles disease in older people.
Public Health England have updated their frequently asked questions (FAQ) for health professionals document about the programme.
